Uninsured Loss Recovery (ULR)

Even though you have rang around various insurance companies and found a cheap insurance policy that suits your needs, it still will not cover you for all your losses if you are involved in a serious accident caused by another motorist.

Uninsured loss recovery is a form of legal expenses cover that protects you against any ‘out of pocket’ losses, for example if your car is insured on a third party only basis, recovering your policy excess, any hire charges or taxi fares and any loss of wages in injury.

The claim for these losses will need to be pursued with the other party and their insurers.  ULR is not usually covered on your motor policy. Adding legal expenses cover from another insurer, often only ads around £20 to your policy, which will be significantly cheaper than an ‘after the event’ cost which could be 20 times this amount.

Your insurance company should make it clear who your ULR or legal expenses is with, and what the additional cost is.

In the event of you needing to use your ULR, it is important that you follow the advice of your chosen solicitor, otherwise this may jeopardise your claim.
