Factors That Reduce Your Insurance Premium

Short of moving to a posh area in the country, driving a 1.1 litre, £500 banger and growing old fast, we have so far been largely dealing with the negative aspects of an insurance risk. However, there are some simple suggestions to help reduce your premium.

Security and Location

Security is a good starting point as the harder a car is to break into, the less likely it is to be stolen. Additional security devices can be fitted to your car such as immobilisers, alarms and tracking devices, which may help reduce your premium.

Another factor, which may or may not be easy for you to influence, is where you park your car. There are two aspects to this; firstly in heavily populated areas, the risk of collision is greater than in a rural area, even when parked. The second aspect of this relates to theft. Again, inner city locations suffer from higher crime rates so if you can garage your vehicle it will attract favourable consideration from the insurance company. So if you have a garage, or off road parking – use it!
