Classic Car Insurance

Rally Cover

To get the most out of your classic, you may want to participate in an organised rally. This is where a group of enthusiast travel around a pre-defined route on the public highway. Normally you drive through some rather scenic parts of the countryside, on some enjoyable driving roads. There are different types of rally that will require different insurance needs.

Non competitive or un-timed tours

Here like minded enthusiasts travel between 2 points, with a refreshment break en-route. Although you set of in a designated order, there shouldn’t be any competiveness or pressure to arrive at a certain time. Your insurance policy should cover you for this type of event and normal cover should apply. Check your existing policy before you start though!

Timed Rallies

These can be held in the UK or Europe and may be for one day or over a series of days. On these events you are usually timed along a set route, with your progress being monitored at a series of checkpoints. The intention here is to arrive at the checkpoints at a designated time, thus maintaining an average speed, rather than quickest.

It is unlikely that your policy will cover you for a timed rally, although your current insurer may be able to offer discounted rates. Alternatively you can arrange cover from a specialist broker. Rates can start from £50 and it is likely that cover will be limited to accidental damage only, TPO for off road sections and an additional excess starting around £1000.
