Classic Car Insurance |
Kit CarsBuilding a kit car is often a labour of love for the motoring enthusiast, with many companies selling components which allow you to build your own car, usually incorporating parts from donor cars, e.g. the engine or chassis from a MR2 or Jaguar.
Once the vehicle is built and road legal, it can also be insured on a similar basis as a classic car policy. It’s also advisable to arrange cover for the vehicle whilst it’s being built against the fire and theft risk. Additional information required by the insurer will usually include: · Full details of the components and the donor car. · The value of the vehicle. Kit cars can also be insured on an agreed value basis. · Its anticipated mileage.
The insurer may also ask for copies of registration documents, photographs and an independent motor engineers report to ensure it is roadworthy.
