It’s a great way to meet like-minded enthusiasts, share hints and tips, swap ideas, trade parts and generally natter about all things car! Being a member to a car club is also a great way to get a discount on your classic car insurance as may insurers offer up to a 15% discount on your premium. It is often worth the membership fee of joining a club, to get your discount, plus you get the benefits of being a car club member!
However, sometimes a club will appoint a ’preferred insurer’. Under this type of arrangement, the insurer may demand exclusivity in any club marketing literature and the club may receive a revenue share from the preferred insurer when a policy is taken out through them. These practices may not provide you with the most competitive policy and restrict access to other insurers.
Most clubs do not do this, so always ask your club if they have any preferred insurer arrangements in place and ring round for a number of comparison quotes.
